The initial Middlesbrough Development Company brief for Vulcan Street was derived from a low density approach to include a combination of town and mews houses to create a high quality gated community overlooking the River Tees.
As the brief developed and the site was fully analysed, the approach was redirected to mitigate site abnormals including; decontamination and flood risk. The resulting solution included the development of 78 one and two bedroom apartments split across two blocks with a raised landscape solution and undercroft parking.
The external design reflected the industrial history of the site with a fully brick façade, incorporating arched fenestration, the inclusion of roof terraces provided further external amenity space whist maximizing views of the Transporter Bridge, Temenos, Riverside Stadium and North Yorkshire Moors.
